Boot springs - think I've got a problem..........

Just completing wiring etc in the boot tonight and have been reflecting on the lack of support in the boot lid. Wait a minute, I thought, this should be staying up on its own !

Both the coil springs and the torsion springs look correctly fitted, but there is no "spring" anywhere at all, and the boot lid does not even remotely stay up. Similarly, the hinges for the tonneau lid do not spring up at all which I recall they did originally when the boot lid was shut.

Any thoughts anyone ?

The spring bit fits between the boot bulkhead and the hood well so it is well out of the way. you can see it in ^^ picture as it is at rightangle to the hinge. With mine the pin and pulley that the moving part of the boot hinge rolls against is missing. The first bent and snapped off when I attempted to straigten it and the second pinged off and flew over my shoulder on another occasion.

I have a spare set which I will fit but only when all the other jobs are done I have a length of 4x2 in the boot to hold the lid open in the meantime.

Be very careful of the springs as they have a lot of tension in them to hold the steel lid open, if you have youir finger or hand in the wrong place you will get hurt
