I am trying to remember where I read an article about the Triumph Logo orientation on the cam covers. It mentioned that some of the left hand ones read upside down ie the same way up as the right hand ones. Can anyone comment on this? I have two sets one one way and the other the other...! I checked in 'Original Triumph Stag' but it wasn't in there and I can't find it on here either.

Not sure what you mean, let me explain further and see what you think. I bought one set from Stoneleigh last year with a painted finish and these have the logo the same way round on both. The other is a chrome set and these have the logos the opposite way round such that they read correctly from the side of the bay you are viewing them from. If I understand you correctly you are saying that there were two ways of stamping them perhaps depending on when they manufactured? But if that is the case why did Leyland produce sets which read the wrong way given that you cannot transpose a left for a right?

Right, now I've seen both your reply and redstag's I'm even more confused than ever! Perhaps I shouldn't have had that whiskey before starting this. You have at least confirmed that I hadn't imagined reading a thread about this before. Are we saying then that at some point there were some stags manufactured with a left hand cam cover (without the oil filler which would always have been on the offside one) that had the logo upside down as you viewed it from the nearside front wheel?

I certainly wouldn't loose sleep over it! I like the idea that something on my car is a little bit different than the norm!
It is a shame I can't claim mine left the factory like that. They were a powder coated set put on by my engine builder when I had it completely rebuilt a couple of years ago.

Here is another one. Have a look at the stunning red Stag sold recently by Cherished Classics. This one has both stamped upside down: http://www.cherishedclassiccars.com/...Car_Sales.aspxDave

Just looked under the bonnet of Colonel Mustard and both Triumph logos are the correct way up (you read them normally from the side of the car you are standing). Looking at them it seems that appart from the logo, they are identical...so if I swapped them over then they would both be upside down. Sounds like some covers have been fitted the wrong way round after engine work at some time...or possibly even fitted incorrectly at the factory?

Here is my theory!
My theory is that the covers are stamped without the oil filler hole, and the Triumph bit is turned around in the press to make them left or right handed. It would then be an easy thing to grab a batch of cover 'blanks' to put the oil filler hole in and grab the wrong ones, thus creating a random selection of covers with most the right way up, but a few batches back to front.http://www.stagwiki.com | http://parts.stagwiki.com (Under Development)

Hmmm...so much for my idea

The logo's are the right way round on our car...I think the most likely cause of some upside down ones would be the theory that they were randonly selected before having the oil filled holes punched into them...or perhaps they were originanlly destined for the Australian market?
