    Dipstick

    Morning all,
i was just wondering, what should the length of the dipstick be. The reason i ask is that if i brake sharply the oil warning flashes on. this leades me to think that the oil level is low but on the dipstick it is on the upper mark. also i remember seeing on someones pictures seeing the dipstick and thinking that it looks different to mine.
    any help gratefully recieved.
    Marcus.

My un-qualified answer would be that, the Stag's sump is not baffled so under really heavy braking the oil can momentarily move to the front of the engine starving the oil pick up. I seem to recall reading somewhere that adding a baffle is highly reccomended if you use your stag on track days where heavy braking is frequent. Not normally a problem during day - to- day use. Do you have an oil pressure gauge fitted?

        Hi Marcus,
I recall somewhere in the depths of my brain reading somewhere that the oil pressure warning light and the brake differential pressure warning switch/light are on the same circuit on earlier Stags- might be worth checking on a wiring diagram - or I could be talking complete rubbish!

          Hi Marcus

Just a possibility that there may be a problem with the PDWA switch. If there is a defect with the brakes or there has been in the past and the shuttle in the PDWA has not been reset, then this may be a reason for the oil pressure light illuminating. As John stated check the wiring diagram as the later cars were modified.

Yes you can lose oil pressure when braking , especialy downhill. I had to baffle the sump in my stag engined TR as I regularly saw the oil gauge heading for zero when I braked, though the light didn't come on. It is worse in the TR as the engine sits level, though I baffle the sumps on all my stag engines now as otherwise I can't help looking at the pressure gauge every time I brake!

Thanks for that, yes i do have an oil pressure gauge but it's under the bonnet as i put the clock back in. its not heavy braking as in track day braking only if the traffic lights change a bit smartish. maybe when i next have the sump off i will fit a baffle.

This again may need a check as the brakes never were that good , but now i have new disc's and pads i do have more confidence in them on the motorways now.

If you've bled the system that could cause the warning switch to go off centre.
