    Hi Alan,

The retaining clip for the heater cable is a specially strong one, although it looks like some other ones on the car. I'd order a new one from LDparts if I were you.

As for refitting the cable, the good news is that the dash shouldn't need to come out, however it's a b*****d of a job and you could do with three hands all with small fingers. I did mine last year however I don't remember exactly how I managed it

As a temporary measure on mine, I clamped the cable under a screw and large washer which were at the right hand side of the heater unit and that held the cable ok for a few months.

    Cheers

    Julian

I have the same problem with my heater cable, and after looking at it a few times I still can't bring myself to attempt it. I just know it will end in a stream of obcenities and a bad back

              Hi Neil,

i have had to take the radio out just to get an idea, it looks like its under a metal plate of some sort, no access from there, so i thought it must be dash out job. as Julian said i will order a clip then get it fixed. bad back and neck from the looks of it , like you say, a job for a nice sunny day i think, i can turn it manually though, it just means hand under the dash to turn it down

                Hi Neil and Alan,

Although I wasn't proud of it, my temporary repair in the pic lasted for ages, so if you are really dreading the job then it is one way of putting the dreaded day off

                Cheers

Not the best of pictures but this might give you some idea of what to expect. You can see the screw and washer that I used for my temporary repair.

                      Cheers

Julian, you probably know this already having taken your dash apart, but you can take the instrument panel out with the wiring loom. It saves a lot of hassle trying to work out which wire goes where when you have to put it all back together again!

You might find that you can get to all you need to just by taking out the centre console. I had to take my dash out as my heater matrix sprung a leak. It looks horrendous when it is all apart, but it is a lot easier than it looks.
