Fast idle.....

right well, what with the upcoming events i think its time i got the idle sleep set.
when cold its great but as the engine comes up to temp, the idle is too high, its around 1000 rpm,
what with all the problems i had last year with the carbs I'm slightly cautious...

i have checked that the accelerator linkage returns correctly... whats next????

Hi Ben, make certain both chokes are closing, particularly the nearside one as it operates the fast idle cam. You'll need a balancer to drop the idle speed properly, disconnect both carb rods first, make your adjustments then adjust the length of the rods so they don't alter the idle in either carb when you put them back. If it's an auto, make certain the kick down cable isn't too tight and holding the throttles open. Enjoy. Martin.

It is an auto, the kickdown cable i did have a problem putting it back on after rebuilding the carbs.

ill have a look at this.

Try disconnecting it and see if that changes things, if it doesn't, put it back EXACTLY as it was. Martin.

My record idle speed is 4500 rpm .

... the end of the accelerator cable caught in the linkage, the approach to the first roundabout - following another car was a bit hairy!

I know a guy who does full tune ups for £50, hes about 150 so has been working with carbs and not ecus. so maybe it would be worth giving him a go

if it was back in the day when fuel was cheap, they maybe i would
however... fuel is very expensive. so ill have to stay local
