    Help wanted with waterpump trouble

    Hi guys,

    I tried today to disassamble the waterpump. Than disaster breaks out. I know that the waterpump bolt is LH. So I turned clockwise to remove the bold. But the bold broke. What to do now. What is an easy way to remove the complete impeller with the shaft. And need I a new shaft or can I drill the broken bolt out. I hope somebody can give me a clue what to do next.

    Could you drill a hole in the center of the bolt and tap it with 5/16 unf then when you screw a bolt in (clock wise )it should undo the bolt

      It has got to be worth trying to drill the broken bolt out. I have had pump shafts push themselves out of the block when trying to undo the bolt, so if you can find some way of gripping the impeller, perhaps with the jaw of an open ended spanner between the vanes, it may be possible to extract the pump this way. The angle of the gears on the shaft may push it out, just do not put undue pressure on it in case it causes problems with the timing chains

        weld a rod to it and use it as a slide hammer if you havn't got a welder try a pair of mole grips on the impeller and tap out upwards it;s only a shaft on a o seal never failed for me.

            Thanks for the help everybody. I will try the spanner first. I must wait 2 weeks because of a short holiday. I will let you know if things works out.

              I couldn't wait. So being back home from a visit I directly went to the garage. Took a spanner from the right size and yes a miracle it worked. The shaft with the impeller is out. So thanks Neil it was the winning advise. Now I must get the new impeller etc en refit everything after my holliday.
