    Inefficient heater - thermostat?

I read everywhere that the heater is very efficient - but mine is lukewarm at best, even on a warm/hot day.

Hot/cold control valve is rotating when cabin lever is moved and temp gauge is fine.

Would this be symptomatic of the wrong type of thermostat (no 'foot' - so long ago can't remember what I fitted during the rebuild) or something else?

    TIA, Martin

Am I right in understanding that a "foot-less" thermostat will keep the bypass circuit open and water will circulate around the engine more than the radiator/heater?
...or, to put it another way...
...a thermostat with a foot will, when activated, close the bypass circuit and water will circulate around the engine, radiator and heater?

      Martin.
Your car should have a Mk 1 inlet manifold which uses a standard thermostat without a foot.

        Martin,
If you feel the top hose that would be the temperature of the heater, if this is only luke warm its the thermostat, if its hot it is probably the heater valve has jammed and only the operating arm is turning not the valve.
Mine was very weedy when i bought the car(along with other faults) but after removing the valve and repairing it is very good>
