Diff flanges.

What a lovely day and i am getting really p*******d off,
Thought i would change the diff oil seals, seems easy enough, nose done, easy. near side output done easy, offside Cannot get the flange off. the puller has just bent the outer edge of the flange up and now cant fit the puller back on. tried heating, still wont come off. oil seal now disappeared in a puff of smoke.
I am now seriously tempted to cut it off, the only problem is are they still available. the original part number is149409. I have got to order a pair of inner u/js as mine are peened on and i would like the circlip fitted ones so I am not able to use the vehicle for a few days anyway.

Marcus I had the same problem 2 x years ago when I replaced lip seals. mThe only way I could get it off was to torque up the flange puller with the diff in a vice and then basically battered the centre pin on the flange puller and off she popped. Don't know what you can do now and not sure what bits are available. My diff was a recon from R.B. and the seals went after 40 miles. They did send me new seals and an output flange as the seals would not have sealed due to pitting. Good luck

I believe the flange part you can get in the UK no problem but my understanding is that the diameter of the UJ cups from the staked type to the circlip type are different.The circlip type are larger and this would require cutting the groove for the clip and machine work etc unless you are going replacing the whole drive shaft with the circlip type. I have also been told that replacing the staked UJ is not as easy as just a straight swap, issues such as getting the UJ on the centre line of the driveshaft to avoid vibration which was an issue with some cars.I have a pair of staked shafts that when I get a chance I am going to look at but if any body has any more info to share that would help.
