    Alternator bracket

Anyone had problems tightening the EJW alternator bracket? I have the high powered alterantor and find it difficult to get belt tight enough to drive it under load. The bracket flexes slightly which doesn't help. Also, as its bolted to the head, whats the long term affect? Its a hefty unit and even tho the head bolts are pretty big and tight, there must be a twisting action under load, and potential movement of the gasket. Is the TH bracket better?

    Cheers

I fitted the EJW bracket first I found the alternator wouldn’t fit on the bracket the mounting hole was in the wrong place, about half hole out so I had to re-work it to get it to fit .then as you say it wouldn’t tighten up on the belt .Idid E MAIL them for advice but that was a month ago still waiting for reply ,so guess who I will not be using again .In answer to your other question yes with hindsight I would fit the T H one

TH bracked worked for me using the standard alternator. no flex, belt is tight enough though at the end of its adjustment.

            Hi Paul
I have the Tony Hart bracket, all O.K Don't know if you could fit your new alternator though.

Thanks for feedback, theres adjustment on the bracket, it just loosens up, whether its cause it flexes or belt slips I know not, bolts are tight. If my physics is correct, and it charged flat out (80a) then thats about 1.25hp, quite a load I guess on what is a long belt. I'm beginning to worry more what it does to the head and gasket.

Bob, the alternator is just a tad bigger than standard else same, it fitted original hole ok but moved for the pump. Does the TH bracket also bolt to the head?

              Cheers

Maybe you could publish mods Stewart? I guess a reinforcement across front of bracket will help, I'm just becoming wary of leverage on head. Looking at TH shop, looks like his bracket bridges the head and timing cover. Also the adjustment is in the alternator rather than bracket with a better triangular setup. Interesting.

                    Paul.

I have the TH bracket which replaced ANOthers earlier design. Wish I had bought the TH bracket in the first place.

I have the wards bracket and high output alternator, initially I had a problem with one of the bolts not lining up. It called for a bit of improvisation before it fitted, other then that there is no problem. Tension is ok, but there should not be too much tension otherwise the bearings in the alt suffer, don't they?,...
