Well this is my first post for a while, all things Stag have been a little quiet for me over the last 18 months.
After the winter hibernation the Stag has a new MOT, no advisories. Today i changed the oil, filters and flushed the rad and cooling system with a plan to use and spend some time on the car this summer. I then went out for a spirited drive. On my return i checked all the fluids and noticed that it was very wet in the vee of the engine. I dried it out, another drive.... more water in the vee.
I know this is normally a give-away sign of the head gasket failure, but on to my real frustration. Four years ago when i bought the Stag i took it to a well know Stag specialist in West London, they told me that the head gasket needed replacing / skimming etc. and relieved me of over a grand for this job and a few other bits.
After collecting the car from the garage i was stranded with an overheated engine a day or so after the work, the RAC told me there was very little water in the car. It was returned to the garage, they checked it over and assured me no damage had been done.
Four years, and about 5000 miles later... Surely the heads can’t have warped or the head gasket gone after this time / low mileage? My fear is that the damage was done when the car over heated four years ago, yet i could not prove this at the time, i am sure i cant now either. The engine is still the origional and only showing 61k, 29 MOT forms confirm this is genuine.
I plan to phone the garage on Tuesday, but do i really have any comeback? I know legally i dont't, but surely 5000 miles is a sign of poor workmanship or as i fear, the one over heating incident caused damage?
Thoughts? I had £2k saved up to buy some treats for the Stag this year, if the gaskets need doing again i am certain that i'll cut my losses and look out for something else.
