    Lights brightening and dimming??

I have a Mk1 and Ive noticed at night with headlights on either full or dipped, both headlights appear to brighten and dim, each "pulse" is around a one second. Ive made no investigations but my thoughts are around the alternator???, Ive no idea how old it is.
The voltmeter on the dash remains at 14 with no fluctuation , however on days when there is no demand on the current ie no lights, heater, radio etc the ignition warning light comes on periodically and the voltmeter drops considerably.
On starting the ignition warning light stays on for a few seconds, or at least until you blip the throttle.
Could these conditions be linked?? and what would be a good plan of attack
    Thanks in advance
    Graham

The original Mk1 has an laternator with a separate control unit and regulator. It could be a fault in any of these or the connections beween them. Try cleaning the plug connections and check all wiring is good first.

I have a similar thing in my mk2 stag, the 'fasten seat belt' indicator pulses a little when on tickover.....
i thought and still think its just 'old cars'
