    Three wheels on my wagon

Having enjoyed drive it day completing nearly 170 miles on the day and the weather still holding I was using the car as my daily transport and enjoying the top down when returning home from a night out the back wheel fell off on a roundabout in Milton Keynes.
Blocking the roudabout on a major intersection of the V6 & H10 the police insisted they get the car removed without waiting for the RAC to recover the Stag.
Any way to cut the story short when I eventually got the car home I was able to inspect the damage more closely. The rear nearside half shaft had snapped enabling the rear wheel and brake drum to go bouncing down the road and damaging the rear wheel arch
I have now replaced the half shaft, brake plate and new slave cylinder but I now need to repair the wheel arch.
Has any one got any templates of the sections of the wheel arch to help me rebuild the profile

Bloody hell! Not a nice story. At least it happened when at a relatively low speed, as I dread to think what could have happened if you had been doing 60mph on a winding country lane

        Glad you are okay

Not good Roger, but could have been worse from the sounds of it.

I had a front wheel come off my M3 at about 50mph about 2 years ago - it's scary.

Oh boy! Does that sound familiar? Happened to me about 12 years ago. NSR wheel parted company at 70mph on the A377. Took me ages to find the wheel. It had gone over a fence, through the front garden of a house, over their hedge and came to rest in the middle of a ploughed field.
The brake back plate gouged one line in the tarmac until it ground down level with the shock absorber bottom mounting which made it a double line until the car came to a halt.
The call to the recovery service was interesting. When told they needed to send a flatbed because I had lost a wheel, the girl said (as if she knew it all) 'haven't you got a spare wheel in the boot?' To which I replied 'Yes, but nothing left to bolt it to!!!!'
Like you, luckily no-one was hurt, but the wheel arch needed some minor paintwork where the tyre had burnt it.
The stub axle had completely sheared off.

That sounds like a close one Roger,a pain you have to fix the car but the outcome could have been a lot worse.

Very sorry to hear of your troubles. Where exactly did the half shaft snap? Was there anything that might have contributed to the failure? e.g. hitting a kerb? Would be interested to know more if you don't mind.

I haven't got any templates for the wheel arch I'm afraid.

                Cheers

Must have had the same training at the RAC call centre as the opperator I had. Same reply when I said I wanted a flat bed because I had lost the wheel !!!!

                    Hi Graham
No hitting of kerb no adverse driving or cornering !!!
My wife is now getting concerned about going to France in it at the end of the month as the steering locked up on the National day run in Derbyshire a couple of years ago and now this!!!

I can relate to that wife concern ... my Stag broke down 10 years ago and she keeps reminding me how unreliable the car is! The fact that it hasn't broken down for the last 10 years seems to count for nothing...!! (she's lovely really - the wife and car)

Hi Roger, that's appalling bad luck, I'm really sorry to hear of it. After all your effort in sorting out the steering, you must be gutted. Good luck with SWMBO. Martin.
