    Wiper motor problems

My wipers won't work as they should.
On position 1, slow speed, then nothing happens.
On position 2, fast speed, they move ever so slowly across the screen once or twice and then stop. After about 20 mins or so, they will start again.
Park doesn't work as they stop anywhere on the screen whenever the switch is moved to off postion.

Has anyone got any experience of changing to a motor from a different vehicle?

Would a new set of brushes in the motor do any good, as this seems to be the only thing avaialble on the market?

Got an MOT coming up, so I need some sort of fix.

Also, anyone know where I can get a brand new windscreen from??

    Thanks
    ANT

It does sound like the motor is weak; new brushes and a clean up of the commutator may fix it.

Hi Ant, as Chris says, brushes are a relatively easy fix. Motors from other models may not help, the TR6 one looks the same but has a different stroke, you may be able to swap your driven cog over but not with all of them. If you have a prob getting another one, try slightly stretching the brush springs, that lasted me a couple of months while I looked for the best price. Be VERY careful with the self park slider, it's too easy to put it back upside down or backwards. Your best bet for a windscreen, is to talk to Stag experienced fitters. I could recommend a supplier, but Bob will jump on me. Martin.

            Bob.
My Dad used to tell me to always go for the older ones, as they are more grateful. Martin will be very very grateful.

S-V-C in Tamworth stock a wide range of Lucas wiper spares, contact Steve Taylor on 01827 67714.

            Brace myself, here comes Bob.

            John.

hi Ant, I had a similar problem with mine when first had the car and it turned out to be the worm gear drive was full of congealed, hard and compacted grease as the car had not been used in the wet hence the grease never moved, with the motor off check the drive is free to move and if not remove the wiper arms and pull the drive through the wheel boxes to remove it,clean regrease and replace. simples !

              good luck with it. peter
