Breather pipes from rocker cover.

Do these pipes need clips on them or are they just push fit? Mine are a bit cracked and tired. Should I replace them?

Are they needed at all? Could I just seal off the carbs and allow the rocker cover to vent out to the atmosphere?

The pipes don't need clips but they must be a snug fit as they are essential to the proper running of the breather system and mustn't allow any air in or out.

If they're a bit cracked and tired I'd definitely change them - they're not too expensive.

Hi Mike,

they don't need clips as you rightly say - they are push fit. They are required as they feed the engine gases back into the fuel chamber to be re-used. Also if removed the engine will not run quite as smoothly. They aren't that expensive to buy from the main suppliers.

Engine will run lean if they are cracked right through and probably won't idle .I had one come off and it ran like a dog and I don't mean a greyhound

Just like to say 'thanks' after reading this thread.
My r/h cam cover breather to carbs pipes were slack especially over the cam cover breather stub but after reading this I changed mine,the difference it made is unbelieveable,just wished I had replaced them years ago.
