Oil Filter Seal Splitting & Chrome Sill Covers

    Hi,

I have had problems with splitting seals on both the spin on Oil Filter and old canister type. They have both suffered from the rubber (or whatever it is) gasket splitting, this is the gasket that sit's in the groove of the pump, i.e. on the spin on it's sit's between the adapter and the pump and on the old canisiter type it goes between the canister and the pump. I know the obivious is over tightening but I'm sure this is not the case.

Also looking for instructions on fitting of stainless steel sill covers.

Would be grateful for any suggestions.

When you fit either filter you should put a smear of grease or oil on the rubber ring, in the case of the old type have you made sure you got the old ring out and then smear both sides of the rubber before fitting and make sure it's pushed fully into the groove...If this is not done when tightening up it can twist the seal.
