Finally made a start on the water pump!

It's taken most of the day with the car fighting me all the way.

First one of the fixing bolts for the old alternator bracket sheared off, fortunately it won't be needed again.

I improvised a slide hammer by welding an old bike spindle to the LH bolt (nearly stripped the thread completely with my early efforts and of course the brass cage didn't come out with the pump)

I made a blanking plug for the pump cover out of a cut down head stud, I had some left over helicoils which are just the right size for the hole.
I need to get a 1/2"bsp plug for the other hole.

I think I'll reuse the hose tail on the water transfer housing to Tee the heads together.
(Bob, you'll get your housing back soon! Thanks again!)

The old pump doesn't look too bad, but I'm still glad to get rid.

I've just got to order in a few bits and it can all go back together.

Was the original pump causing problems Kev?
Personally, if the original pump is okay, why change to a belt driven one with the potential for a belt failure. It's not like the belt is also used for the alternator so if the belt fails you get a red light on the dash.
Bit like going for the electric pump and electric fan and removing the originals, if you have a fuse blow, you've had it if not noticed!
If on the other hand you have jackshaft problems/ gear teeth hardening problems I can understand going for an alternative, but if okay (and should stay okay if teeth hardened correctly), why add a potentially less reliable alternative?

I take your point Mike, and although my pump seemed Ok I've heard too many horror stories regarding water pumps and jack shafts (I know plenty are working OK)
If the belt fails the temp will go up and I will stop (hopefully in time!) If the jack shaft strips it gets really expensive!

        Anyway it's done now (nearly!)

          Kevin,

Your signature currently reads: ZF 4 spd box, Datsun shafts, SS exhaust, 4brl weber, BMW MC+ servo, Tomcat seats

So that's Jaguar, Datsun, BMW, Rover and now a Ford water pump. Any other manufacturers represented on your Triumph Hybrid?

A picture of the heads Tee'd in.

And the heater circuit, a simple piece of domestic copper plumbing and another long heater hose to connect round to the new metal rail. The cable tie is to make sure nothing moves and fouls the throttle mechanism.

well done on fitting the water pump kit, i still have not got round to fitting mine yet.

i bought a hose tail from jp but they did not know what size the thread was, i had already bought 1/2 bsp tap but it was to big so i took it to an engineering shop, they said it was 5/8 x18 tpi UNF they drilled and tap it for a £10 cheaper than my first tap

I used the hose tail from the pump cover and blanked the hole with a standard 1/2" plumbing fitting. See pics further up.
