I'm looking at replacing my failed viscous coupling with an electric fan. Kenlowe is well known but Tony Hart is advertising another type. Has anyone installed one of these. If so how did it go. Any pitfalls?

Does anyone have experience of the Pacet electric fan?

Hiya, I fitted a 16" Pacet six years ago and have had no problems with it at all ! Originally I used a probe type stat to control it, but now I have an adjustable one screwed into the ali rad. I really would think seriously before you abandon the viscous fan, there's been a thread on here about it being better at cooling the carbs than a pusher electric one. Before you buy, have a look at Stafford Vehicle Components website, Steve's prices are usually better than most, also his site carries a mass of info about fans, sizes, capacities etc. and well worth a look. Martin - thanks for the advice. I hadn't thought about carb cooling and I will check out that thread. I'm new on here even though I've had my Stag 7 years. My reasoning for ditching the viscous coupling is that, in failing, it dug the fan into the radiator necessitating a new rad as well. I just thought the electric fan would be more reliable and even if it failed it wouldn't damage the rad. Also I didn't realise it was a pusher type. I was assuming I could install it at the back of the rad as a direct replacement for the engine driven fan.

I have a 16" 2spd Kenlowe and recently tried it on my rebuilt engine without mechanical fan (which is still good but getting lazy). I didn't like the way the temperature quickly climbed in traffic although cut in/out ok, but what I found was it ran cooler at 70 than 40, if I turned the fan on all the time it was fine. Methinks the big 16" blocks the natural airflow, I've refitted mechanical as well and now ok. I also like the gentle waft of air over the oil cooler and engine bay.
