    Oil Pressure Gauge Pipe Routing

Have been trying to feed my oil pressure gauge pipe through the bulkhead into the engine bay - there are a couple of holes above the speedo cable hole and below the hole for the choke cables, but these are too small for the nut to go through. Can't see any other holes near there to use.
Does anyone have any pics of where they have routed their cable?

    Cheers.

    Dave.

    Hi Dave

Are you sure the holes themselves are too small or is it just because the grommets are small?

I didn't have a problem when I did mine and there are 2 or 3 holes I could have used. Take a look at some of the other posts - like Nitronig's one - that show pics of bare bulkheads - and I think you'll see what I mean.

So, push the grommet out of bulkhead; push nut through empty hole; fit grommet over nut and on to pipe; slide along pipe and refit to bulkhead and job's done

    Good luck.

    Cheers

    Julian

        Hi Julian,

thanks for the photo, just what I needed.

I tried to pass the nut through without the grommet attached but it would not go through the holes, as the ones I can see are too small. However looking at that picture I can now see there are holes I didn't know I had. They must be tucked up under the padding. I'll have a look tonight.

        Cheers.

        Dave.

          Hi Dave, you're welcome.

I still reckon you must have a pretty big nut I reckon mine was no more than 10mm max and would have passed through most of the holes easily.

Anyway, armed with that picture, I hope you'll be able to sort it.

          Cheers

Having posted the picture above for Dave set me thinking about which holes are for what.

I've reproduced 73stagman's picture and I've marked up the other holes, including those for servo, master cylinder, heater & steering column.

However, I'd be very interested if anyone can confirm what is supposed to go through the other holes that I have very crudely numbered.

            Cheers

                  Thanks Staggard,

had another look at the holes tonight. Holes 1 and 2 are too small as the nut is 14mm as are holes 3 and 4. Holes 5 and 6 are blanked off and sit behind the heater, which leaves me the same option as you mention, using hole 7 where the choke cables go through.

                  Dave.

                    Hi,

My oil pipe runs thro a hole just below the choke cable hole, but what ever you do make sure that the cable is clear of the steering column UV knuckle , my oil pipe got tangled up on in this knuckle and pulled the pipe off the transfer housing as I turned a corner. I lost a whole lot of oil on the road but I was lucky I noticed the oil gauge dropping to ZERO and I stopped almost immediately.

                      Hi Danny,

thanks for the advice. I think I will shorten the pipe as it is way too long and may well get caught.

                      Cheers,

                      Dave.

                        Dave,

As you can see from my photo I have cable tied the oil pipe to the brake pipes. Also to get the pipe thro the b'head the large securing nut & the olive was removed.

                          Danny,

is it easy to get the olive back on the pipe? As it seems like a really tight fit. Have had probs getting things like this on pipes before.

                          Dave.

                            Dave,

I had to expand the olive again, I increased the size with an approprate sized drift (nail), watch and not make it too big. I also used PTFE tape when I refitted it.
