    Hood Removal

    Hi Guys/gals

Some scumbag took a Stanley knife to my hood last year and I have now found a company that will stitch a new window in if I take the hood off the frame. Does anyone have any sage words of advice on how best to remove the canvass to allow the company to gat at the back window?

Your help and guidance as always is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Mark,
I need to get the rear window done on my hood , which is the company that will do it for you?

      Hi Mark
The only way I know is to drill the heads off the pop rivets, and remember which way the the seals go back on when you come to refit it.
I reckon it's easier to refit the old hood than a new one, at least you will have all the holes and creases to go by.
      Have fun.

      Cheers

Hi Mark, there's some careful un-glueing involved. Around the main stick and back and front edges. Hopefully Chris will turn up with some tips. Martin.

Its actually a local (Whitminster - Gloucestershire) commercial tent and marquee company called Attwools. They are going to give me a price tomorrow when I take the car up to them.

            Hi Mark

I just noticed where your from, are you going to the car show at Berkeley Castle on Whitsun Monday? I believe it's a really good day, I may be going with a local club, but I'm also supposed to be at the show in Abergavenny, so undecided as yet.

            Cheers

Yes I agree with that; if it fitted well before just refit into the same position.

While you have the cover off, check all frame bolts and nuts; oil them well, and make sure they are corectly shimmed. It so much easier to work on the frame with the cover off. Also why not give it a clean and paint if it needs it?

              Have a riveting time

                Hi Chris,

is there a list/diagram of what size shims go onto which bolt? I bought a new bolt kit but didn't note which shim went where and not sure I have got them all correct.

                Cheers.

                Dave.

The idea of shims is that you select the shim thickness that takes up any slack without binding. I have a box of 3/8 washers of various thickness, and I just select the combination that gets the right result. I realise its not so easy if you dont have the right washers, but they are cheap enough, so I recommend you just buy some thin ones and add as many as you need. Most of the bolts have a locknut, so make sure this can be fully tightened without the joint binding. Check that when the joint moves, the nut/bolt does not move otherwise it will eventually loosen.

                      Cheers Steve,

had seen that pic before but had not realised the washers had the sizes on them.

Must pay more attention in future. D'oh.
