    Paint

My car was bare metalled about 8 years ago and now needs some small paintwork repairs doing. The paint used was Lechler two pack. Ive found a bodyshop locally who still use two pack but the company who sprayed the car 8 years ago have informed me that Lechler no longer produce two pack paint. Does anyone know where I might get hold of some old stock Lechler paint or any ideas on alternatives.

My car is Topaz code 84. Ive had paint mixed up before locally in aerosol form but Ive never found it to be an exact match.

    Cheers

    Hi Dave

Why do you Want lechler paint any 2pack paint or even cellulose, would be compatible with the paint on the car .The only thing you may have a problem with is if you spray over where you have used the aerosol as this will react with almost everything

      Hi John

Only reason I wanted Lechler was to get a true colour match, have since looked on the net and have found a company supplying Lechler two pack so at least I can buy the same paint the car was sprayed in 8 years ago. Company who sprayed the car originally have gone over to water based which I guess means respraying the whole car.

        Hi Dave

Do you know which water base the garage uses because lechler do there own water base and they may be on that system .as for color match it shouldnt be a problem if the formula is not spot on it can always be tinted to match

          John

Not sure what type of water based paint the company who originally sprayed the car use but I dont want to use them for repairing the car this time,

Ive found a local bodyshop who do a good job and rather than trying to tint the paint to match I thought it would be the best option to buy the same paint the car was sprayed in 8 years ago.

Next step is to speak to the guy at the bodyshop re Lechler paint and see what he recommends as the way forward he may prefer another paint supplier but he asked me if I could find out what the car was sprayed in hence the contact with the original sprayer. Im just surprised to find Lechler two pack available on the net when I was told the paint was no longer available. Topaz seems to be a hard colour to match as Ive bought several different professionally mixed aerosols and non of them matchexactly. I had the rear wing resprayed by the original sprayer a couple of years ago and the paint is an exact match due to him using the same paint as the car was originally sprayed in. I am no expert on paintwork so unsure about matching paint when spraying individual panels.

            Hi Dave

My car had been 'restored' down the sides so only the sides were sprayed and as you say they have struggled to get a colour match!:?

The previous owner said the sprayer had a really hard time but got it as close as possible. When (It will be a while) I can afford it I am going to get the whole car sprayed again so it is all the same shade.

Let me know how you get on as it will be of great interest to me, with having the same colour which without question is unique and the bestamongst the Stag world.

            Stuart.

              Hi Stuart

Totally agree with you about Topaz being the colour to have, ironically when looking for a car orange was the one colour I didnt want. Viewed my car expecting it to be blue and was surprised when Topaz turned out to be orange. When I had the car bare metalled I had the chance to change the colour and didnt, the colour had grown on me that much.

Sadly though it does seem a difficult colour to match and due to the repairs I need being both above and below the body stripe I need to get a perfect match otherwise it will be a case of painting the whole car and I hope I dont have to do that as the majority of the paint work is still excellent. I will keep you informed of progress re the colour match obtained.
