    Hi, deano calling.

Went down to Brands Hatch in the Stag today to see some mates who were racing in the historic touring car races, had a good time, heres the bad bit.I had just got on the M3,slipped into overdrive for a nice run when bang, car in front flicks up a large stone that hit the windscreen chipping off a piece of glass the size of a 5pence piece. Can't be repaired,so my question for you knowledgeable people is, are new windscreens still available and from where.Hope some one can point me in the right direction. Thanks Dean

If you have windscreen cover with your insurance then i'd start with them first, Autoglass will do the job, but you may need to be flexible on timing so that you can get the 'more mature' fitter. If buying yourself and looking for someone to fit it you could speak to Rob at Old School windscreens in Chertsey - fairly local - they have been recommended before

otherwise you can try some diy.

I had one fitted by RAC Windscreens a couple of years ago. It took a few days to get one to Aberdeen but there was no doubt that they could do it.
The problem came when they fitted it. I had bought a new rubber and the "chrome" was in good order. I explained that he should put the chrome on the rubber, the rubber on the screen & the screen on the car. When I went back he told me that the chrome was bent (it wasn't) and he had fitted the rubber on the car then glass to rubber. Was I happy??? Damn right I wasn't! I then had a friend fit the chrome with a lot of difficulty.
Any of the fitters should be able to source a screen. Just make sure that they do it properly.

Hiya Dean, as Andy says, do it through your insurance, provided you can have it fitted by a Stag expert, DO NOT let Autoglass anywhere near it ! They mis fitted mine so badly, that within 3 days, water had got in and wrecked the immobiliser, I then payed an old hand £50 to take it out and fit it properly. They had only sealed the outer edge, and then only after fitting, there was no sealant to the glass. Your best bet, is to contact the Stag guy nearest to you, and ask who they use. Good luck, Martin.

Robsport used to have some in stock. (may be nearest to you?)

If you decide to try it yourself, get the tool as per workshop manual before you start.

Fitting the chrome and screen will probably 'develop' your patience.(unless you are naturally that way)

Dont use washing up liquid (contains rust inducing chemicals like sodium/salt)....soap is kinder.

If you do do it yerself, it is satisfying in the end ...best to put a day aside so as not to bring on the pressure....I took 3 & 1/2 hours first time without a helper.
