    Weber update.

    I have one of V Mads early Weber conversions with 135 main jets. I fitted an AFR gauge over the winter and noticed that it was running weak on cruise, around 16+. On advice from V Mad I contacted WEBCON, they said I should have 140 main jets as on the later kits and 170 air correction jets, standard is 185. AFR on cruise now 14.5-15.2, which I think is spot on? Car definitely more lively. Should be an improvement on the 130BHP I got on national day, if I felt like subjecting the car to that treatment, which I don't.
    I brimmed the tank several times today, I did not measure the consumption from Sussex to Berkshire. Fuel consumption from Berks to Prescott including 2 runs up the hill and back to Berks at 80MPH+ was 26MPG. A more gentle run back to Sussex at 65-70MPH gave 30.5MPG. ZF 4 speed Auto.

      An AFR of 14.7 is spot on, so you are pretty much on the money! How does she feel under cruise conditions?

        Hi Paul.
        Been thinking hard how to put it into words. Car is quite happy to maintain cruising speed, with little accelerator. Instant acceleration. Great outside lane cruiser.
        I am sure that I would get similar performance or maybe better from a well set up, fully overhauled pair of Strombergs. The problem is getting them to and maintaining that tune is an issue, as no green tuning experts around now.
        I would suggest a large pancake air filter or along the lines of Cosmicwheels excellent design as the Weber looks a toy compared with a Holley or Strombergs, so is best hidden. The Weber is simple and it works for me.

          hi john good to hear your car is running well with the weber now and good mpg great stuff .i have fitted my weber now and wowzers! what a result car pulls like a train no flat spots and instant power from touch of the pedal also starts on the turn of the key with a little choke will do mpg test soon but would love to put on rolling road now but with all the upgrades and rebuild to engine i would **** myself so i will enjoy as is .happy motoring stewart

            That all sounds encouraging! I am not sure what carburation I shall opt for on my TV8 when the time comes. Quite possibly Strombergs, though. But it is good to have viable options, including the Weber.

              Just to confirm what John (KOY23) says, the standard jetting for the stag is 140 mains, and 185 for air correction. If you change the air correction jets for a smaller size (170 has been suggested) then this should not affect fuel economy as this only enrichens the mixture significantly at full power. I have not tested this but I think it is a good idea, and will be opting for that setting on my own car (one day when it is built!).

              If anyone is planning to get a rolling road test, I would suggest using 170 air (and possibly even 145 mains although this will not be the most economical setting). Also carefully set up your ignition and valve timing as these are also crucial for max power.

                I took the stag to holland and back last week ,[750 miles] average 28 mpg with 1 hr hold up on motorway, temp normal [vmax header] 300 miles in one day only problem o/s flasher packed up and a square bum ,John
