    MOT reveals more than expected!

Had my blue Stag MOT'd a couple of weeks ago and the tester, put in the chassis number in his box of tricks and then told me the car is 1972 model. This was in deed news to me and if it is true good news as it means that the cars is tax exempt....

The problem is the car's registration document says first registered on the 3rd August 1973.

Does anyone know why the tester's computer system would say 1972 and could I claim to have an historic vehicle and if so can I get my tax back!

i assume it was built in '72 and sold /registered in '73. I think the tax is based on build date so you should be ok - worth getting a heritage certificate to prove the details?

I believe that LD21086 is the last one made in 1972, or the first one made in 1973. So a commission number at or before LD21086 (or LD21085) should be tax exempt!

The rules are based on build date, not first registered date.

Ah. I see that the link above points to similar information!

        Cheers,
        Mike.
Mine since 1987. Finished a 20+ year rebuild in 2012. One of many Triumphs and a 1949 LandRover!

Have a quick look on your V5 document. The VIN (Chassis number) should answer your question. Lower than LD21086 and you should be able to save yourself some cash...and have "Historic Vehicle" instead of PLG as the vehicle type.

I love going to the post office to tax my Stag, waiting in the queue with my documents and then they have to give you your tax for free...feels good.
