    MOT phail

    Failed on o/s lower balljoint.

This was last replaced in 2002 and 16,603 miles ago

Either cheap nasty crap or potholed / speedbumped roads round these parts.

Anyway new joint ordered from LDP and hope to fit this weekend.

IIRC remove retaining clip and press the old unit out. before pressing the new one in.

Had the n/s go in the space of a couple of m.o.ts
    Original 30 odd years.
    Replacement 2 years JP.
    LDP should be better.

New A.R.B. links broke in less than 1 year.

You make it sound so easy Richard . I always cut the old ones out with a hacksaw. Pressing in the new ones needs a big strong vice at least.

yes hacksaw out should probably be the easiest, chap over the road has a <evil> 20 tonne fly press </evil>

That was easily man enough for the Range Rover a-frame pivot

One sharp blow out one sharp blow in with the back well supported and a sutable socket to make sure you apply the force in the right place did it for me .

          Cheers Steve

didn't need the press in the end. Failure of the old ball joint was due to a broken dust cap. The joint was dry but not rusty so probably happened very recently.

Removed the circlip and cut the thread off flush with the top of the unit. whacked it with a 2lb hammer until it shifted a fraction of a mm, then doused in wd40, 2 more taps from the trusty lump hammer and it popped out. New unit went back in fairly easily. The car is all back together again after a total of 50 mins work.

Trouble is that while underneath I spotted that the monkey who did the tracking for me recently didn't cut and replace the cable ties that hold the gaitor to the track rod. so they are both twisted and perished quite badly. both are almost split so i'll replace those also while it is off the ground. and get the MOT retest done early next week.

It doesn't run out till the end of the month anyway.

              Happy days
