    Heater control rattle

I have finally pinned down a dash rattle to the heater control when it is set to the feet position. If I put it to screen or demist, it goes.

My question is, is it a cable, a flap or a spindle that I cant get to?

    Any one had this?

    Thanks

Amazing, just discovered the self same thing this evening, really annoying rattle. I just moved the control up a tad and it disappeared!
My opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Yep, thats the same as me. So what is it before we start stuffing foam up there? Cant see how the rattle is the flap as it should be laying down on top of the carpet at the bottom when air is directed to the feet.

The heater has metal linkage rods on the outside that move the flaps, and when the flap is shut these rods have no tension on them and will allow them to rattle. There are also the long spindles going through the flaps that hold them in position, but when I stripped mine down there was no play in them at all. That said - your may have some deflection in yours.

Thanks Dave, interesting. Being that mine does it when the air is being directed to the feet, the flap will be open at the bottom, so it must be a flap further up that is supposed to be closed but rattling. This sounds as though it may be awkward to get to. Yes, the spindles were the dread as you cant really cure them unless it all comes out. It would be really good if it is something that can be bent to apply tension to eliminate play.

          Thanks for your advice

Just thinking back to when I stripped mine - the spindles have a push fit washer that holds it in position - check that the washer is tight up against the heater sides.
