    Wiper motor park switch

    Hi

Anyone got an in depth knowledge of the parking switch inside the wiper motor.

I 've bought a second hand unit and it seems to havebeenwell dismantled in the past.

The end of the wiperrack has a tab which in turnpushs a white plastic runner backward and forwards therefore actuating the switch.

My question is..does anyone know which way round the plastic runner goes. It has a "ramp" underneath to catch the switch. Open end of ramp toward front of car or back of car.

If anyone knows I would be eternally grateful

    David

      Thanks SJM

That would seem to make sense and yes looking at the manual looks about right

Anybody know if the metal tab on the end of the rackis supposed to locate in the crosscut on the top of the plastic slider or does it push against the turrets on the top.

Just read the relevant bit in the manual ...duh... so just answered my own question.

Anybody recommend a good supplier of wiper racks where the end tabs are robust and not likely to snap.

These seems to be a problem which has, which is, or which will effect every Stag has anyone come up with a permanent fix yet?????

Only solution seems to be to get a new or s/hand one and braze on it properly before fitting. I'm not sure why they snap as I wouldn't have thought they'd be subject to much stress. Maybe a badly adjusted parking switch is the problem which doesn't allow the tab the full extent of travel necessary causing it to flex on each stroke and therefore eventually it snaps or breaks off?

When I have more time I am going to drill the steel thingy on the end of the rack and braze in a steel pin to replace the actuating tab. The tab is made of a flimsy piece of tin that will fracture at some inconvenienttime for sure. What a crummy design - pure BL!

Is this parking issue unique to the Stag wiper motor/set up? I ask this because I have hadfour 2000/2500 Mk2 which never had a problem with the wiper motor or parking of the wipers.

I am fairly sure the set up (apart from the intermittent function) is the same motor and also similar to other BL models which also don't seem to have problems!:?

Or is it only the recon or after market versions which have problems and therefore a issue of manufacturing/reconditioning quality that needs to be looked at?:?

Not sure this will solve all eventualities. As well as breaking away from the worm, it also has a tendency to crack on any of the 4 corners which means the tab is no longer rigid and doesn't operate the switch properly. Building up a bead of braze around the based and along the underside of the tab will probably help. Seems to have worked on mine, but my wipers don't get a lot of use in sunny Somerset!

                    Bill,

I mean I will dispense with the sheet metal thingy altogether and braze a pin right into the steel block with the hole in it.

Eventually got around to having a look at why the wipers are not self parking. Can anyone explain to me how the auto park works. My guess is that the microswitch keeps the power on the motor until the blades are in the park position at which point the microswitch removes the power and all stops.

With mine, the wipers work correctly normal and fast speed but as soon as I switch them off using the stalk they just stop moving.

If my previous description is correct then I would blame the microswitch. However I checked this with a multimeter and on two connections I get a normally open contact which close when I operate the microswitch.

I also ran the windscreen wiper motor with the gearbox cover off and the cam disconnected. I was expecting the wheel to continue to turn when switched off at the stalk until I operated the microswitch. The motor stops as soon as I stop them at the stalk

I am totally confused how this should work. Is there another component I need to check?

It's quite possible that you have the sliding segment in the wrong way round, the ramp underneath it should slope up towards the windscreen when in position. Martin.

Thanks Martin I checked that with the manuel and I have this correct. But even this does not explain why the motor just stope when the wiper control is switched off.
