    Changing Front Seats

Rather than restore my decaying front seats I'm thinking of fitting retro bucket/racing seats. Has anyone had experience of this and where can you get the parts?

The west yorks area co-ordinator has fitted ford capri 2.8i front seats to his car and they look great, also we have another member who has fitted a complete seat set from a granada (bug eyed model) and they also look well however they dont suit as well as the capri seats above.

I have seen front seats from a Rover 200 Coupe in a Stag. These look good. A common seat to retro-fit into other cars is the Mazda MX5. I have seen pictures of these in a Spitfire. No reason to think they won't fit a Stag as well. You may need to make up adaptors for the runners.

(of course you don't have to have them retrimmed in bright yellow!)

Hi, if you can find a Rover 800 coupe at a scrapyard , they fit although you need to weld to Stag rails, They are a nice leather and fold down to let rear passengers in.

i saw them in a car at theSouth Wales national Weekend a few years ago.

I've fitted some classic Recaro seats to mine, only last year, after seeing Neville's (the west yorks area co-ordinators) Capri seats.

Mine are not from a Capri, but believed to be after market Recaro's available in the late 70's or 80's, so period correct. An ebay find dry stored for 20 years that had been fitted to a BMW.

I might get them re-trimmed but the black velour is in excellent condition for the age and they are very comfy

          See my photo web page:

I've just bought some MX5 seats to fit in my Spitfire, whilst they certainly will fit in the Stag, looking at the overall dimensions, I think they will be a bit on the small side, the Capri/Rover/recaro options would be better suited. I have also heard that XJS seats are suitable.

                Hi Mike!

Just to say I think your RECCARO seats look superb!-quite fancy myself if I can drop lucky- can you still adjust operable height when fitted?

Also I wonder if you could tell me or anyone out there.....when I got my 74MK2 presentley going through a full internal re-fit..I found that the seat belt warning feed had been taken out of circuit?- reason unclear......! also found bulb blown on display for same....now replaced

What puzzles me is there is no sort of switching on the binnacle? to cancel alarm!

                How does it cancel?

Am not altogether sure if this is the orriginal binnacle?!?

                any help really appreciated!

                CHEERS!

Phil, no there is no height adjustment with the Recaro's, but as I am 6'4" I set the height of the seats as low as possible. They are infact slightly lower than the original seats.

I changed my seat belts a few years ago and the replacements did not have the seat belt sensor fitted to the seat buckles so my warning light is inactive.

The circuit is quite simply though, with the ignition switched on the drivers seat belt must be in the drivers buckle to switch off the warning light. If there is a passenger their weight will switch the passenger seat pressure pad that will require the passenger seat belt to be in the passengers buckle. So to answer your question to cancel the warning light the seat belt has to be in the buckle. Maybe your seat belts have been replaced in the past with no micro switches and that's the reason the circuit has been removed.

                  Cheers,

                  Mike.

Jolly good evening all. I've recently bought my first Stag and am already hooked. However, my drivers seat is very "flat" - the base needs re-furbishing.I live in Surrey/SW London - can anyone recommend a place that repairs/refurbs seats? Thanks in advance

                        HI

Am a recent new STAG owner myself!- and had same problem! common fail point I understand! with age!- you will probably have lots of decomposed foam in bases-I had in mine! and will also find that the base rubber mat has torn from its fixing hooks( approx 12).

Dont know any re furbishers your way- but I repaired my base with (dont laugh....) a couple of old leather belts!- pre tensioned and cross braced under frame! low and behold worked like a treat!- fitted a new foam myself -pretty straitforward job!

all the bits avail if you have a go yourself- from RIMMERS or JAMES PADDOCK LTD

Best of luck with your STAG!

These are what MX5 seats look like in my Spitfire, a bit snug but very comfortable. I needed to modify the MX5 runners to fit the existing rear seat fixings and drilled new holes for the front. The Spifire is fairly restrictive on the floor pan and the rear heelboard and transmission tunnel restricts the rearward movement. This would not be a problem in the Stag. My Roll bar also prevents a decent recline!
