Paul remember to pull the carpets up especially in the front. I did not do this and got stung when I removed the carpets later and had a dig about. Not hard to emove the front carpets and have a close look at the edge where the floor pan meets the sills. Mine was full of all sorts of filler and caused a wee bit of heartache trying to get it sorted. Best of luck anyway

      Hi Paul,

Welcome to the wonderful world of Stag ownership. There's always plenty of help and advice on this forum. I have to agree with all the prevoius comments about unleaded fuel. A Stag should run just fine without the need for lead...and to honest you would not want to remove the cylinder heads to fit harder valve seats unless something had gone wrong. The heads on these engines don't exactly 'fall off' when you unbolt them!

Due to the unwelcome addition of ethanol in almost all standard unleaded fuel I have started using super unleaded and have advanced the ignition timing back to almost factory settings to take advantage of it (standard unleaded is 95 octane...super unleaded normally 97 octane and 4 star that the car was designed to run on was 98 octane). I find that it runs better this way...although whether the fuel consumption has improved slightly to compensate for the extra expense...I'm not sure. But to be honest I didn't buy a V8 to worry about mpg too much.

Enjoy owning a Stag...but carefully check what you buy first. All cars from the 70's rust. There's nothing wrong with one that has been correctly repaired but you don't want a chassis full of bodge or fibre glass sills.

      Chris
