There was a bit on the news earlier about the Iceland ash cloud, and how some oil workers may not be able to fly home, I feel for these guys, and just hope that none of our friends are amongst them ! Martin.

More seriously we have some very good friends in Joplin Missouri, and we've been over there to stay with them many times over the past 20 years. Miraculously they were out of town when the tornado struck, but two out of the three homeowners among them have lost everything, including a young couple who had recently bought their first house and are due to marry in September, and we are supposed to be travelling out for the wedding - not sure whether it will still go ahead now. They're the ones I really feel for, but at least they're still alive unlike over a hundred other poor people.

Martin, we can't predict mother nature, she'll do what she wants to do and bugger the consequences!!. I feel for these guys too, as I sometimes work abroad the last thing you want to be told when it's time to go home is the you can't go!!

Thanks for the thoughts, Martin. I am offshore at present, due home next Wednesday. Fixed wing flights between Aberdeen and the Shetlands were stopped until after lunch when 'normal' service was resumed. In the meantime 6 empty helicopters were sent out from the Shetlands to pick up people who needed to get home urgently (compassionate, holidays, etc.) or who could be released. So although it looked bad at first, at least some flights took place yesterday.

All clear today, but Sky news being what it is they are predicting it to return later in the week.....

Hello everybody,

At the moment I am here in Herts. with 28 exchange students and my wife to flz home on Tuesday. If we are unlucky (or lucky?) we might be stranded here. This happened to our English visitors last year in Germany.

Let us hope for the best - whatever this is...
