Calling ZF Gearbox Experts - No Reverse

    Hi Folks,

I've just got back from a very pleasant 800 mile round trip to the Laon Rally - strongly reccommended - and enjoyed every mile.

However, I had a nasty surprise when coming to put the car away; no reverse gear!

Unfortunately, I don't think it's a linkage or an oil level problem - reversing lights on, no drive - plenty of oil.

    Any ideas?

    Peter

I had to get a neighbour to help me push the car back today and then pull it backwards with another car going uphill a little way; that was fun!

              Hi Guys,

The fault's 'Gone!' - or, more likely, 'Gone Away'. I took the car to an automatic gearbox reconditioning expert about 20 miles away and. when he checked the car, reverse engaged quite normally. Maybe the fault only occurs when the car's cold. Just don't know. I'll have to always park ready for a 'go forward' getaway until I restablish confidence.

              Regards

hope it stays gone - i was under the impression that the ZF was very reliable, would be a shame if it continued to cause troubles

                      Seaking,

Many thanks. I don't think I'm skilled or brave enough to try to do that! I'm beginning to think it could be a selector issue or possibly a clutch 'sticking' when cold which is OK when the transmission's hot.

                      Time will tell.

                      Peter

Maybe worth a google, but I think the ZF box looseing reverse is the one and only 'weak point' on this box?
