    Is yours Topaz?

I have just bought a couple of tins of Topaz spray paint from James Paddock but the colour is a bit different to my (Topaz) Stag, fortunately I have only tested it and not sprayed anything critical but was wondering if anyone else has similar experiences?

    Cheers Keith
My opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.

    Hi Keith

When I bought some paint for mine I found the same. At my local motor factors the topaz listed under triumph was slightly green? but the one listed under rover was a good match

mine is Carmine but the aerosol I got is a lousy match. I guess paint fades and also there are probably different makes etc so sometimes you are lucky and the touch up will be a good match and sometimes not

H'mmm interesting. It is fairly obvious that the car has been repainted at some time and plenty of paint put on, I wonder if it was done in the Rover Topaz orange instead of the genuine article by mistake! The guy I bought it from had the hardtop sprayed and that matches exactly so I will ask him if he can find the paint code.

I have found the paint to be very thin and drips all over the place so not impressed!

        Thanks Phil and Giles

thats interesting - mine needs loads of coats to cover anything, it is almost see through!! Have also recently used some made by Hycote for our Mini Cooper - that was a perfect match and much better coverage, they do not do Carmine!

I am not sure about genuine. A lot of the triumph colours seem to have been listed under rover ie later in the list of paint codes that my supplier had. Having said that the PO always claimed it was nearly Topaz. faversham classics who painted it maintain the correct ICI paint was used. So what do I know? I just love it.

If you go to a good paint supplier, they will colour match your paint and put it in an aerosol can.
It's the best way for a DIY touch up ()

I spoke to a local paint supplier who suggested I bring down the car or a sample for them to match the paint too.
I shall be doing this when needed, I believe some of them will make up spray cans too although I was after a litre of the stuff.
I do have some in a jam jar from previous work which I use for touching in chips etc. This was a very good match when the work was done but paint does fade over time so it's always worth taking the car to the paint supplier.
                Cheers

I used to work at ICI Paints back in the 90s. They used to do a colour matching service and provide paint. Once had a guy fly down in his private jet from Manchester to pick up some paint for his 1950's Aston. Took me out for a very boozy all afternoon lunch as a thank you. Hope he didn't fly the plane home though! Might be worth trying them. They are based in Slough...
