    kevlar hoses/coolant leak

Today myself and good wife took the stag to pick up kids from school.
all ok even if has was driving and having major difficulty with auto box.
Arrived home and said i would leave car running to check and set (manual) thermostat when temp needle rose.
went inside and to my horror my youngest came running in dad the stags is leaking water or petrol.
well enough said turn off straight away.

found it somewhat confusing that the coolant was coming from rear of engine.
after a bit of looking noticed heater hose leaking.
however what really pi$$eD me off was when i bought the car from a very nice man
who left a set of hoses in car with receipt and made me promise him to change them and also pointed out that heater hoses need changing and sometimes were forgotten.
he even phoned me a fortnight later to make sure i done them (2years agoapprox)
so my long winded question are kevlar hoses S*&$E or am i just unlucky.
no damage done to engine so i suppose iT could be worse.
But 2 year old kevlar hoses which i was assured were the business.
    sorry for the rant
    regards john

Kevlar hoses are pants, fit the ones from LDparts or if you are feeling flush, silicone hoses.

Kevlar hoses are c**p. Replace them all with reinforced hoses from LD parts or similar. At least you don't need to drain the system!

The kevlar hoses are well known to be rubbish. The kevlar is not a braid reinforcing the hose, its just chopped up stuff mixed in with the rubber. I have heard of these splitting on fitting and even that they are tearable with your bare hands.

Get a set of reinforced hoses from a stag specialists and dump the kevlar asap would be my advice.

Yep - dump the kevlar ones - replace with pukka braided/reinforced ones from one of the reputable suppliers

Wot they said. Why these hoses are still being sold for the Stag beggars belief. They are allegedly OK for some of the smaller Triumphs, but useless in the Stag with its higher pressure cooling system. Ditch the lot and fit the proper ones re-manufactured with the help of SOCTFL and available from most suppliers.

Some 'Specialists' are selling "KLevlar Braided Reinforcement" are you suggesting that I change them?

I haven't seen or heard of "kevlar braided" the ones I have seen and heard about are not braided, just strands of kevlar mixed in with the rubber compound. I would suggest it's possible that the term "braided" is inaccurate. I'd dump them for a proper set of ordinary reinforced ones, particularly if you do long journeys. The kevlar ones are known for letting you down at any given moment.

                        Hi John
Perhaps the guy you bought the car off wasn't aware of the shortcomings of kevlar hoses and thought he was doing you a favour.
I had kevlar hoses on my car untill I was warned about them on here,at the time I thought I was putting the latest top notch hoses on my car, live and learn.

mark i could not agree more he was a very genuine guy and a former club member i believe.
like me he obviously thought kevlar hoses were the bizz but the thing that gets me is, the feedback here is genrally aware these are sub standard on what is a potential weak area for any car and especially a stag.
so why are these still available and mine were supplied by a specialist.
i ordered a set from ld and spoke to peter and he was totally aware that these are sub standard item.

                            Hi John
To be honest I had them on my car for about 3 years with no trouble but the top hose was slightly shorter than the normal rubber type, and it lost its grip in the end,it wound slide down the stub on top of the rad when the car warmed up,when I realised it wasn't down to me not tigtning the jubilee clip enough,I bought a standard hose set,I had visons of losing all the coolant and ruining my engine just because of a faulty top hose.

                              hi mark ,
i had the same feeling yesterday so you, and i suppose everybody has had that sinking feeling.
anyway could have been a lot worse no damage and new set should do the trick.
