overdrive replacement

Hi, if I manage to pick up a replacement J type o/d (see my advert please) I am told by a stag owner that it can be exchanged without removing the gearbox, apparently by dropping the rear of the engine and gearbox I can get to to the bolts securing the o/d to the gear box and slide it off backwards . is this true? I have access to a very nice man with a ramp so getting under the car is not an issue.

Yes it's possible and a lot easier than taking the whole box out again -horrible job without a pit!

Is it possible to do this with a A type overdrive as well?
