Track control arm

[new to this]

im having trouble trying to release the ball jonit ( ive used the tuning fork type ball joint breaker) but it will not give way both sides ( drivers and passengers )

Can they rust in after a long time

Hi Dave,
I put a new one on mine the other day. I have always found that they will release using two hammers. If you hold a lump hammer behind the trunnion housing you can then hit it , smartly and hard, with another hammer. After a few goes it should release. Leave the nut on the balljoint if it is going back so you don't damage the thread with the hammer. I personally have never seen one rust in even in some which I repaced that had been in for 35 years.

yes they can but they will all give in eventually. I've found the most stubborn to give in to the following method.....

use you ball joint splitter as far as you dare, then a bit more. Then get two hammers, as big and heavy as you can find and whack both sides of the 'hole' at he same time as hard as you can. By 'hole' I mean the the place in the arm that the ball joint goes through

never failed for me even on land rovers, and they only use one torque setting - FT!

It will work to free any tapered fitting I've come across. Just have conviction and hit hard.

as Gary says, the track rod ends will just pop out!
