    Hi Mark,

I was staying near Berkeley for a few days last week !

I've been thinking about getting a balancing tool but have never got round to it. Just a thought if nobody comes up with one for you to borrow. I think you can get them for £25ish so if you wanted to buy one then I'd buy it from you after you'd used it.

If you're interested in the idea at all then PM me.

    Cheers

    Julian

Ps Just looked and this is the best price one I've seen: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GUNSON-CARBALA...#ht_3013wt_883

FWIW thats the one i bought, very easy to use and comes with full instructions, dont forget to take the link rod off too to get a proper reading on each carb, the only thing i would say is it's difficult to keep it perfectly upright for the reading

        Mark / Julian.
I had an old (very old!!) Gunson Carb balancer, all you can say is that its an indication but thats all and its a pain to use on the stag with air intakes being opposite one another.
So I bought one of these (50309713695 ebay) and this works a treat very repeatable measurements and seems very little disturbance to the airflow. I also have a Crypton balancer like this one (250829340861 ebay) its good but its does restrict the flow you can hear the engine note change as you place it on the intake.
the Anemometer may be worth a try certainly much better than the Gunsons.

        All the best
        Paul.

Thanks Paul, however that first ebay number doesn't seem to work

          Is it the right number?

          Cheers

              Hi Paul/Julian

Thanks for the guidance. I fancy using one those fancy wind speed monitors, so will investigate further.....

Julian were you up for the Berkeley 'old banger' show over the bank holiday weekend? Pity about the poor weather, although I understand it was a good show - not able to go myself this year, wife's birthday and she made it clear that she (and she means me) was not going to stand in a cold and drafty field on her birthday!

Where did you stay? We have a holiday cottage here, www.mulberrytreecottage.co.uk, very comfortable and great value.....

I'll let you know how I get on with the wind thingy.

              Mark

                  Hi Mark,

Your cottage looks great - we must have driven straight past it last week. We were staying at Thornbury castle (we got married there and go there for short breaks sometimes) and we went looking for the remnants of the old Severn railway bridge (by the side of the canal) and up to Purton to look for the wrecks of the two boats that collided.

We arrived Sunday afternoon and left on the Wednesday after the bank holiday. I didn't know about the show but we stayed in the castle all of the time when the weather was bad !

Just seen your later post so I hope you get on with it OK.

                  Cheers

                  Julian

                    Hi Mark.
That one looks fine. I found the mt/per/sec scale was the best, it just gave a more sensible figure.
Just going back through the carbs again I made a trip to Burlen fuel services to pick up some new "O" rings for the temperature compensator valves.
I'm so glad its raining here this week as the seat backs are away being re-stuffed!! so I cant drive the car so just tinkering at the moment.
let us know how you get on.

                    Paul.
