For what it's worth, I just took out fully comprehensive insurance for my Stag - three named drivers, 5000 miles per year, £100 excess at a cost of £104.00.
It is with Performance Direct Classic Car Insurance.

Hi John, its on page 3 top right hand corner of the mag. The club scheme allows you to keep the salvage of the car if written off, which is worth comparing to other companies as if your car was hit up the back, you can sell the engine and all sorts. Better than paying a cheap premium and losing at the end of it.

Copied from Members Area of the main website; The official Club classic car insurance scheme for members is underwritten by Equity Red Star Motor Policies and includes Breakdown and Recovery cover for both the UK and European Union countries.
It is administered for the Club by Richardson Hosken Insurance Brokers, Specialist Car Division, Library House, New Road, Brentwood, Essex CM14 4GD.
I've just taken out insurance with Richardson Hoskin and it was a very slick, professional operation. Took no more than 10 minutes.
Costing me £158 for 3,000 miles, £11,500 agreed value, and two named drivers with no accidents or convictions. Included is european breakdown recovery, and legal assistence.
I guess you will never find out how good your insurer is until you have to make a claim. I might have got it £10 cheaper here, or £20 cheaper there, but I'm old enough to realise that with some things you actually do get what you pay for.
There will always be someone who will do it cheaper, but I'd like to think that if they are recommended by the club, then there is a reason for it (hopefully good service levels when you need them).
Yes, I got that. Thanks.
I thought an official valuer of some organisation would make an in person viewing or inspection of some kind. Seems now I've a lot of work to do to compile copies of receipts, reports of repairs, photographs and historic documents. I do all the work, tick all the boxes (Present Condition a1, a2, etc. who am I to judge?), and someone else gets paid to guess a value without seeing the car in the flesh, nice earner. Is is worth it? What's the come back if someone else's opinion differs when it matters? After all, it is only someone's opinion, and that value is only valid like an MOT, on the day of the inspection to show that the car meets certain criteria.
I had a nice chat to Lancaster today, quite a reasonable quote obtained on line to start with, increased by 50% by the time we'd finished talking over the phone, with another 10% added in the confirmation quote I requested, emailed later. The 'sales team' member, I didn't like his tone, perhaps he didn't like Mondays even though it was Thursday, was quite insistent that payouts in the event of a right-off would only be based on market value! An greed value just added £15 to the cost, coincident? And when asked about salvage ownership, well apparently it depends on the degree of severity of the damage, there are different grades, A, B, or something, the worst being that they are legally obliged to scrap the car without offering the choice of any salvage. What value is an agreed value then?

I've previously been with RH for 15 years but their premiums went sky high when I bought my mini cooper. I've now moved to Heritage, they provide similar levels of cover with agreed value and return of salvage. They do their own valuations based on 6 photos and some receipts for free. I insure both the Stag and Mini for approx £200.
My experiences with Lancaster are very poor and I only ever use their online quote as a guide for negotiations with more trustworthy companies. Everyone who I know that has contacted Lancaster has had the same huge increase between quote and premium. Don't mention Lancasters renewal premiums. Oh and it's run by the daughter of the owner of MGOC who drives an Aston on the profits of his 'club' members.
