    Replacing Trip Reset Cable

The speedo on my Mk1 Stag is fine except that the trip reset cable is broken and I want to replace it. I am awaiting delivery of an old speedo with trip reset cable included but I don't really want to replace the whole unit because of mileage readings (my car has done 27000 but the "new" speedo has done 70000).

Does anyone know if it is possible to replace just the cable and if so how?

Hi, I have just fitted one to my mk1.
Replacement is easy, it just pushes on and clicks into place over the square drive inside the speedo.

I can't give you good advice on removal as I broke the plastic fitting on mine taking it out of the old speedo years ago.
If yours is already broken it doesn't really matter though.

Thanks Pete. I tried pulling the old one out but maybe it needs a bit more force. If it fits without taking apart the speedo that will be good.

        Hi there
Heres a photo with the trip cable removed,as you can see it is rounded at the ends and straight down the sides,I have no trip cable to check against but I seem to remember even if you line the trip reset up it will not come out.Forgot why?
What you could do is bend the tabs back on the face shroud, take that off and undo the two screws at the back which will release the trip cable from the speedo.

Thanks for the picture Mark. When the other speedo arrives, I will see what is involved in removal from that one before messing up mine and will report back on how it went.

If I recall correctly, the reset cable for a Mk 1 Stag is exactly the same as for an MGB. These are readily available from MG suppliers.
