Been working on the car trying to tune the engine up. When I revved the engine there was a funny rattly noise coming from the front end, sounding like it was under the timing cover. Fearing the worst that it was timing chains or something else under the cover I began stripping the front end down.
Drained the coolant, out came the radiator, off came the fan and coupling, slackened off the PAS belt and removed it, got to the Alternator and found the the main pivot bolt had lost the nut from the back end and worked its way loose.
What a relief. The alternator must have been rattling somehow against the engine when revving it. Have now put a Nyloc nut on to prevent this happening again.
Engine is now all back together and running sweet as a nut. Although when warming the engine to tune it I also noticed the fuel and temp gauges were not working - so off came the dash - out came the tester - both were working fine but no power getting to them both. Checked all the wiring on the back of the dash loom when I spotted the double dark green wires had come of the voltage stabiliser. Plugged it back in and "hey presto" all working again.
It's slowly but surely all coming together now. Just massively relieved there was nothing wrong.
