Hi all,
Help. Can somebody help before I go mad. I had a water leak from the manifold gasket a while ago and replaced the gaskets. I obviously didnt tighten it down enough as on filling with water the leak was even worse. I therefore replaced the gaskets again and used new bolts to refit the manifold. On replacing the carbs I find that the throttle linkage now holds the throttles almost wide open. Removing the linkages and it idles Ok but even making the linkages as short as possible, I have shortened them by about 1 inch, they are still too long. What have I done?, How can they be too long, they were OK before. I took carbs off as 1 complete unit. Can you get shorter links?

Did you take off the post that holds the spring loaded wheel with the 2 ball joints fixed to it (the bit the throttle cable attaches to) ? if so have you put it back correctly as this would affect the lenghts of the rods if it was at a different hight.

Can you post a picture of the linkage

Hi Mike, it sounds as if the throttle cable outer has come out if its housing on the engine and effectivley is giving you about half an inch of throttle more than normal.

Hi Steve, No, I took carbs off as 1 unit, just undid the single bolt holding them on and moved them out of the way. Will post pic of linkage in morning. Pete, will check your theory in morning too.

Is it a stick shift or auto did you check the throttle cable was back in the right place if it is an auto the did you get the kick down cable back also did you put the choke cables back in the right way the cams are not being held open ? will wait for the pictures.

The forum triumphs again, in fact Peter was right, the throttle cable had got stuck somewhere and was holding the throttles open. All seems OK now.Thanks for your help.
