Thread size and length of bolts ( carb elbow to carb )

Gent's fitted new gaskets to the carb elbows after cleaning and polishing them up a bit this afternoon, unfortunately someone previously have put the shorter bolts where the slightly longer ones should go. Subsequently these have stripped the thread on one side.

Does anyone know the correct length and type of bolts, these should be, as I will try and retap these and put in slightly longer bolts or the correct length at least. Failing that any ideas gents

Hi mike,

just measured the ones fitted to mine as they are off the car.

They are all 1/2 inch UNF heads and the lengths are 82mm, 73mm and 23mm measured from the tip of the thread to the underside of the hex head.

Bolt 5/16 UNC x 3.25 inch elbow to carb (front - long) Rimmers No BH505261 £1.38 inc VAT
Bolt 5/16 UNC x 3.00 inch elbow to carb (front - short) Rimmers No BH505241 £1.32 inc VAT
If the threads are stripped get a Helicoil/Insert kit. It's easy to repair.
BTW there's a road safety show at Keith Grammar School this Sunday. We've been invited but I can't make it.

just measured the ones fitted to mine as they are off the car.

They are all 1/2 inch UNF heads and the lengths are 82mm, 73mm and 23mm measured from the tip of the thread to the underside of the hex head.

Check that first! I think you'll find they are "5/16 UNC" 2 are 3.1/4" long and 2 are 3" long the short ones I'm not sure about the length. about an 1" I think.

my lengths are correct - but the threads are wrong. May have been heli-ed at some point or just a different thread cut into it.

To be honest Dave it doesn't really matter as long as they hold the elbows firm and from a seal, unless of course you are going down the show car route, then you would definatley loose points from the judges

Cheers Gent's will try the trusty tractor repair guy who seems to have all the UNC threaded bolts that I have required recently.
Seems that a lot of farm machinery is of Americal origin and they seem to still use UNC / UNF type threads. Sure saves on postage and waiting for deliverys from further South.
Might be handy for others to know this, as I have sourced a shed load of UNC bolts through tractor repairers and dealerships. Might seem daft but it's true enough.

Mike's absolutely right.

I live out in the country miles from any car parts supplier, however there is an agricultural machinery company right next door. They've saved me on a few occasions, plus there prices are pretty good as, I guess, they're used to dealing with farmers

Unfortunately, they don't seem to stock Stag body or engine parts
