    Piston rings

Hello all, had a problem with excessive oil consumption and as I had refurbished the heads already, I thought I'd fit new rings.
Anyway just got the first piston out and there are only 3 piston rings on it (looks like 2 compression and 1 oil ring)
Is this correct? The parts manual shows 5 rings !!!! Am I missing something?

This is what mine looks like (oo-er)

    What you have is correct.
The parts manual may be showing the three separate pieces of the oil control ring.

Correct about the oil control ring being made up of three bits.

On the subject of piston rings, my block is in very good condition and is still on original size and pistons. I bought new rings to fit them as a "sensible" measure. Chatting to THE German Stag guru at the ESM, he advised me strongly against fitting aftermarket rings if the originals are ok. It seems like the story we hear so often with Stags - if you can use the original bit, then it's usually better than a new aftermarket equivalent.

I've popped my rings in an ultrasonic bath and they've come up a treat.

Each to his own, of course!
