Wiper switch

What's the difference between a Mk1 and Mk2 wiper switch? My switch will pull towards me into a locked position - there is no spring pressure returning it. If I push towards the speedo, nothing hapens until I move it down a notch. The question is, do I have a Mk1 switch on my car (MK2)? I am trying to get the wiper delay working and am a little suspicious of the switch. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi Brian, I,ve got a mk2 and your switch sounds the same as mine, dont know if its the same on mk1 no doubt the experts will let you know, as for the switch if you pull it towards you thats the intermittent wipe, if its not working it could be the delay relay not working ( back of the parcel shelf top right) just replaced mine because of the same prob, thats if your wipers are working on the switch of course

Hi Brian the Mk1 stag has 2 speed wipers The Mk2 also has an in termitant. To gain the intermitant on a Mk1 it is not just a case of fitting a Mk2 switch though

Many thanks for the info. I had no idea if my car - a MK2 - had the correct switch. It had a new one fitted a few years ago before I bought it. It looks like my delay unit must be faulty, which is good news as its a lot cheaper than a switch

On my Mk 1, if I pull the switch towards me it does a single wipe. Does the Mk II have an intermittent wipe like moderrn cars?

Yes Al, click mine forward & it wipes every 5 secs
