MOT pass thank Christ ( PHEW )

Well gents, flew through MOT this morning, and was a great feeling for sure.
    co2 Level 2.03 ---Max allowed = 4.50
HC Level 384 PPM--- Max allowed 1200 ppm.
3 x advisorys, stearing column top bearing slightly worn
Near side and off side wheel bearing has slight play.

Not sure as I have'nt had a look at the manual but can the wheel bearings be nipped to take up wear or is it a removal /replacement, can't remember for sure.
Is the replacement of stearing bush difficult or is there any way to take up the play??

if its the rears they are a shaft out job and specialist or if youve got the know how and tools its diy .you can get exchange shafts it could be that a slight adjustment will sort it but if you go to far they are u/s.the fronts are as you say a nip.the colum you can buy a refurb kit easy diy job and done in a few hrs.id just keep driving and do all this in the winter.

Nice one Mike, wheel bearings can be adjusted but are also dead easy to replace. The steering column is also easy, you probably have the original serrated washer which has moved. the bearings are opposing so need to be held together if that makes sense. they are also expensive at about £35 each and you need 2. get the modified clamping ring and you probably find when fitted and adjusted it will eliminate most if not all of the free play.

The front bearings have a split pin through a castle nut, there are two drillings through the stub axle so it can be tightened half a flat. Feel for the play before you tighten the nut,and again after tightening. If the nut doesnt tighten easily it may be wear on the stub axle, the symptom being that the bearings are tight and the play remains in the wheel. If this is the case don't bother just replacing the bearing as the play will still be there and you will have to take it all apart again. I have had to do this on the Stag powered estate this year for the MOT
