    Fuel Cap Problem

Having problem with fuel cap sealing so took off the cap and the post looks bent. Haven't got another one to compare it to so would appreciate feedback. Is this normal? Any idea how I could straighten it? Looks like it will just snap off if I applied pressure.

Could leave it but the cap is hard to close after refueling and the rubber seal does not sit in the middle of the hole so vapours can leak so would much prefer to fix it.

    Thanks

Mine was a bit like that, the rubber used to catch on the lock bar making closing it a bit difficult an then as you say the rubber didn't sit in the middle of the hole, though mine did seal. I managed to straighten it a bit with a screwdriver and a hammer whilst it was on the car but yours does look like too much of that treatment might snap it.

I doubt you can really use heat on it either because its very likely to damage the chrome. If nobody has any better experiences to share on here I think you might just have to get a bit aggressive with it and hope for the best. At least if you do break it, good examples regularly come up on ebay as the chrome on this part seems to last fairly well.

      Hi Ian,

Your description is exactly the same. The rubber seal is worn from catching on the lock bar so I thought an easy fix with a new seal but then I found it didn't sit well. I see your can buy new ones but expensive! I will try some gentle persuasion and if all else fails have to keep an eye out on eBay

      cheers
