    Soft Top Seals

I am working my way around replacing the weather seals. Have done the door and A post seals - the latter thanks to guidance on the forum here. Have just obtained a set of seals from James Paddock for the Soft Top. Can anyone advise how the horizontal seal (above the door) is replaced? Does it involve prising the metal channel apart to remove the old seal?

    Thanks

Hi John, so you just tug them downwards to remove them and then push the new ones into place without removing the channel? btw, which part of Sussex are you?

Hood seals are usually locked in place by squashing the ends of the Ali seal retainer (channel). If you prise the channel back to shape with a screwdriver, the seals may slide out; if they are still tight you may have to resort to ripping/cutting them out.

To fit new seals, make sure the channels are straight and clear, then use a lubricant (silicone spray, or washing up liquid) to slide in the new ones; lock them by bending the ends over. The rear top seals need to be chamfered at the back ends to fit behind the angled end of the frame.

Managed to replace the top seals, thanks for the guidance. Used a screwdriver from one end of the channel to lever out the old seals, applied washing up liquid and slid the new ones in. Did need to use pliers to pull them through towards the end. The next challenge will be the front seal but that is after I have replaced a faulty alternator :-(

The front seal cannot be slid in or out due to sharp curvature of the retainer. It has to be prised out and new one pushed in with a wide flat tool. I use a thick 2 inch scraper for most of it, plus a 1/2 inch screwdriver for the end curved sections. Note: the new seal may be too loose or too tight, needing some adjustment of the retainer to make it fit tightly.
