Puddle weld drag strut bush cups to chassis leg

Gent';s I plan to puddle weld new bush mounting cups to the chassis leg.
They are about 2mm thick so I believe I can screw the ampage right down on my mates stick welder, and tack them in place. Question is what size hole should be drilled to accept the puddle weld, and how many tack welds would you think would be best. Two or four.

    Hi Mike,

Can you not borrow a mig? Even a gasless mig would be better than a stick welder. Using a mig you have half a chance of making the plug weld without getting a bump that will need grinding down. Also you won't need to strike an arc and then get it in the hole with all the flux smoke obscuring your view.

As to how many Plugs I would think 4 would give good strength in all directions.

Yes Ian your pretty much correct. Used the stick welder as I had no other option available, and what a pain in the butt it was. Got there in the end but will have to grind down the welds tomorrow. MIG is deffo the way to go. Not looking forward to grinding down the bump welds tomorrow for sure.
