Evening all, I have a split in the rear window of my soft top - about 3 inches long. Any ideas for a temporary fix? I can't find any previous threads on this. Thanks.
Sorry to hear that Dave. I am afraid the only thing I can suggest is Gaffa tape, but that isn't too transparent! It should just about be enough to keep the rain out until you can effect a permanent repair/replacement though!

Hi Dave,
On another convertible I lifted the hood when it was really cold and the screen cracked.
I fixed it using clear weatherproof tape (Sellotape brand I think) sticking a strip on the outside and another on the inside.
Lasted until I sold it nearly two years later.
Thanks guys - I look for some appropriate tape. Dave - the window is not in my 77 Stag - its in my 71 Stag that I bought 2 days ago! I got it a bargain price (i think!). Don't intend to keep it for long.

The quick way is the exterior style PVC clear tape available from B&Q etc. I used to have a Norfolk brand greenhouse with a clear flexible plastic cover that was fitted with a similar tape. Take your time rubbing the airbubbles out and you'll hardly see it.
If you're daring, I fixed a 1 inch split years ago in a MG midget by getting a mate to hold a block of wood inside while I was outside with a soldering iron. I was worried about burning clean through but several little dabs melted the surface together and sealed it. Left a bit of a scar though. The tape is definitely less heart stopping.

You must be a glutton for punishment! It sounds like an early one, does it have a low 'LD' No?

Dave, it's LD3872O and white. 2 owners in last 30 years, 7 before that, so with me that's 10 in total. Came with an fair hardtop that I need to sell as I have no space for it. Soft top is in good condition apart from the split in the window. When I was driving it home the temp gauge showed hot but the AA man reckoned it was a faulty sender unit as his exhaustive testing showed no overheating, which was a big relief! Apart from that and a suspect exhaust it all seems pretty good. But in no way can it compete with my 77. I may drive it to our next meet!
