    Door Cards - Refurbishment?

I think I remember reading on the old website forum a detailed explanation of replacing the hardboard door cards but cannot find it when searching this new-style forum. Is it just me, or can anyone point me in the right direction? Many thanks, John.
(Or, was it in one of the magazines?)

    Hi John,

I can't point you to the previous posts I'm afraid. I stored dozens of links (including this one I think) to the old site but they were all in the "http://stagownersclub.mywowbb.com/view_topic.php?id=7084&forum......" format which is unobtainable now

However, I replaced door cards last year and managed it fine without any instructions.

You'll just need a good staple gun and, if you want to replicate the original, some bifurcated rivets (I'd never heard of them before ) which I got from Woolies. I reckon I might have been able to use pop rivets instead possibly.

Apart from that it was all just common sense - although I found it was worth having both panels removed but just work on one at a time so I had a reference.

If you need any more advice feel free to PM me if you think I can help.

    Good luck, Cheers

    Julian

Hello Julian, thanks for the reply. I took the driver's door panel off yesterday and had a look at its' assembly. I have a staple gun, that my wife uses for various upholstery things, I guess I'll have to buy some very short (less than 3mm) staples first.
As for rivets, I have a pop-rivet gun and normal rivets so I'll try these. (What does bifurcated mean?)
I think I will stick with hardboard as the original panels have lasted nearly 40 years (2 ply plywood was suggested but I see in B & Q that this is 3.6mm thick and probably a lot heavier) Which did you use?
Also I think that I'll stick with the standard clips as I may want to remove these panels (easily) in the future and the suggested and improved ones from LD parts are stated as slightly shorter!
      Regards, John.

it's an easy enough job just take your time removing the covering as its glued in several places, us a very shrp knife to cut it then it will go back on the new boards very well
Did both of mine in half a day
I got new boards already drilled etc from Aldridge and they are perfect fit, save drilling and cuttting a borad yourself

            Hi John,

I think Sparky has just about said it all

I used new cards (from Aldridges or Paddocks - can't remember which) and the bifurcated rivets weren't expensive and leave less of a protrusion on the reverse than pop rivets. You can just see them on this pic.

            Good luck. Cheers

Thanks chaps! Bifurcated it is then! Although I am going to cut my own boards as I have a new jig saw to test!
              Regards, John.

I wrote a report on it in the old forum, no idea how to retreive it though. You could try a search.
