    Rear Shock Absorber Mountings

Hi there, some advice if possible please?
I bought my Stag (1976 - Pimento Red) 18 months ago and recently whilst changing the rear shocks (MOT advisory notice) I discovered that the top mountings (turret tops) have cracks about 15 - 25mm long from both sides of each of the mounting holes!
Is this a common fault? Can I just get them welded up and is there a strengthening plate available that I should get welded in, or do I need to get the inner turrets replaced?
    Thanks' in advance

Grind the cracks out with a dremel.

If no serious rust is uncovered weld the cracks and grind flush.

    Prime and paint and waxoyl.

If more serious rust is uncovered after grinding, it may be worth considering a repair washer / strengthening plate.

If the corrosion seems worse after grinding, it'll most likely be even worse on the underside.

The underside seems thicker than the top.
The top seems to crack because its thin and not well attached to the underside.

      Thanks' for the advice Julian.

I have already cleaned the paint off with a small grinder and the cracks appear to only be in the top part with no visible rust.

I think to be sure it only gets repaired once I will add a strengthening plate when I get it done.

      Thanks' for the help.
