Afternoon all.
My last post caused quite a bit of debate and comment, yielding much info, so I thought I would try another.
Gave the car a service couple of weeks ago, and had a quick look at the carbs. Seems to run fine, although it takes a bit of cranking to start, and is fairly responsive and lively when the clog goes down. Economy has always been pretty poor, averaging 13 - 15 mpg, but I use the car daily, and most of my journies are short and around town.
One thing I noticed was that one carb piston drops smoothly over 3 seconds or so when lifted, while the other is easier to lift and drops immediately. Never really had much to do with carbs before, but from doinga little homework, I gather that this situation will not help the running of the car (and economy). Checked the dashpot oil and both carbs fine.
Question is, does this mean the piston is worn beyond redemption, or is there a spring missing or something? Is overhaul an easy DIY job, or should I be going to someone with experience?
Any help appreciated.
